9 MAKEUP TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
A person cannot learn everything about makeup overnight. It is a process and we each learn about the different aspects of makeup at our own pace. here are a few tips that any makeup beginner can benefit from.
1. COLOR TONE- There are 3 tones, cool, warm and neutral. Everyone falls into one of these three tones. Knowing your tone is important because it helps you to find makeup products that have undertones to suit you color tone. A simple way to check your color tone is to look at your veins. If you have bluish or purplish veins then you are cool toned. If your veins look more on the green side then your tone is warm. If you cannot tell whether they are bluish, purplish or green then your tone is neutral.
2. APPLICATION ORDER- Order may differ for many people. This is the order I like to follow when I am applying my makeup.
- Skincare
- Eyes
- Primer
- Foundation
- Concealer
- Bronzer
- Blush
- Highlighter
- Translucent powder
- Setting Spray
- Lips
I prefer this order because it helps to easily cover any mistakes and I end up with a flawless look.
3. SCOTCH TAPE METHOD- Placing a strip of tape at the sides of the eyes helps give a guide for a perfect wing. This method helps everytime that it is used.
4. PRIMER & FOUNDATION BASE SHOULD BE THE SAME- If your primer is oil based then your foundation should also be oil based. The same goes for water base products. If the two products are of a different base then they will repel each other or just simply slide off your face making blending difficult. The correct primer can help your makeup last all day. The wrong one, however, can cause sliding makeup, visible pores and short term wear. When the formulas are of the same base the products blend more easily.
5. KNOW YOUR BRUSHES- Brushes are so important in makeup application and knowing the purpose of each brush can help your makeup function and look so much better. In general your fluffy brushes are better for products such as powder and blush because they are good for diffusing products. Smaller brushes are better for products such as lipstick and eyeliner because they provide precision.
- FOUNDATION BRUSH- An ideal brush for foundation is one that is dense so that excess product is not soaked up. This brush can also be used for your concealer with dabbing motions to get an even blend.

- FOUNDATION BRUSH- An ideal brush for foundation is one that is dense so that excess product is not soaked up. This brush can also be used for your concealer with dabbing motions to get an even blend.
These are my 2 current favourites for foundation. I also often apply my foundation with makeup sponges.
- POWDER/BRONZER - If you use a dense brush for your powder it results in a cakey look. Fluffy brushes are ideal for powder application. This same brush can also be used for applying bronzer or at least any fluffy brush so that it blends easily.
- CONTOUR - The best contour is a result of using a flat dense brush. The key is to blend it out so that it does not just look like a dark line on your face.
This Boxycharm brush is an ideal fit for contouring. Its dense and flat and works wonderfully.
- BLUSH - Small, fluffy brushes are ideal for blush application. These disperse products really well and does not result in a harsh look.
My all time favourite blush brush. I have had it for years.
- HIGHLIGHTER - Small but somewhat dense brushes works best when applying highlighter. Fan brushes also works well.
I reach for my fan brush more often, but it depends on the highlighter if I will use the glow brush.
- EYESHADOW- Most important brush when applying eyeshadow is a good functioning blending brush. Blending perfects your eyeshadow look. It enhances your cretive outcomes.
Some of mycurrent favourites for applying eyeshadow.
6. CLEAN BRUSHES- Not cleaning brushes can lead to severe skin breakouts because unclean brushes are ideal breeding grounds for bacteria. This can also impact how your brushes performs. Use a brush cleanser or brush shampoo once weekly to clean your used brushes.
This Aesthetica brush cleanser performs well.
After using the Aesthetica brush cleanser.
7. USE FINISHING SPRAY- Finishing spray use results in a dewy, natural look. Not using finishing spray results in a cakey looking face. Plus this helps your makeup look to last longer.
8. CAREFUL USE OF WATERPROOF PRODUCTS- Water proof products extends the wear of your makeup, but over exposure to them can harm your skin wear and tear of the protective layer of the skin can occur because of the trying process of removing such products.
9. DO NOT SHARE MAKEUP- Sharing makeup, especially eye and lip products is not hygenic. Refrain from sharing your makeup products because it increases the risk of spreading some infections.
